HOW TO INSTALL A WIG
Installing a wig can seem like a daunting task with so many different types of wigs and cap constructions. This is why we have designed our wigs here at René of Paris and Aderans, to be ready to wear! You don’t need any wig glue, wig tape, or special wig installation tools or products to wear our wigs. We also pre-cut the lace, so you can literally take our wigs out of the box and wear them right away!
Need help putting your wig on?
Here are steps on how to install or put on your wig.
First, you want to make sure that the wig is adjusted to the right size for your head. All of our wigs feature adjustable straps in the back of the wig, in the nape area. If you turn our wigs inside out, you can see them on either side the wig tag. Some of our adjustable straps are similar to a bra strap, and some are Velcro. You can use these to adjust the size of the wig cap so that it fits your head most comfortably and securely. Is your wig too small? You can loosen the adjustable straps to make the wig cap a bit larger. Is your wig too big? You can use the straps to make it fit tighter. If you need to adjust more than the adjustable straps allow, you can always contact a local wig retailer or professional who can assist you further.
Next, you should decide whether or not to wear a wig cap under your wig. Some wig wearers prefer to wear a wig cap under their wigs, like Daniela Hernandez Salas, one of our wig educators who has bio hair. While others such as our Alopecia Ambassador, Abby Andrew who does not have bio hair, prefers to wear her wigs without a wig cap underneath – so she puts her wigs directly onto her bald head. Some people decide whether to wear a wig cap under their wigs based on whether they have bio hair or not. If you don’t have bio air under your wig, you might not want to wear a wig cap. If you do have bio hair under your wig, a wig cap can help contain your hair so it does not move out of place while you wear your wig. We offer both a nylon wig cap and a fish net style wig cap – both of which have their benefits! If you want to be able to pin your wig to your wig cap or if your head tends to get hot, then a fish net style wig cap might be a better fit for you. If a smooth finish is most comfortable for you or your head tends to get cold, then you might want a nylon wig.
However, keep in mind that you do not need to wear a wig cap to wear a wig, and ultimately, it’s a personal preference and up to you to decide what feels more comfortable. Some wig wearers also like to wear a wig grip that is an extra layer of support for keeping your wig in place. Again, you do not need to wear a wig grip, but it can provide east of mind for some! We offer both a standard wig grip, and one with a lace front.
PUTTING ON A WIG
The next step is to put on your wig. Here is how to put on your wig. First, hold the wig on the side by the temples of the wig cap, and place the front of the wig onto your forehead where you want the wig to fall. If you have bio hair, make sure none of the hair is getting tucked under the wig cap. Then use one hand to hold the front of the wig by your forehead, and use your other hand to pull the rest of the wig onto the back of your head. You should feel the ear tabs right on either side of your head, they should be perfectly in the front of your ear space and it should feel comfortable. Your ears should not be under the wig cap. If the ear tabs are placed properly, you should be able to comfortably put the hair behind your ear and have it look natural. Looking for video help on how to put on a wig?
If you have a lace front wig, you want to make sure that the lace is cut. The good news is that all of our lace front wigs here at René of Paris, Noriko, Amore, Orchid, Alexander Couture, and Muse have pre-cut lace so you don’t need to do any cutting or use any kind of wig glue to hold down the lace. The lace comes pre-trimmed and it should fit properly on your head without any sort of adhesive. We do this so that you can immediately have a very natural look when you put it on. Once you put on your wig, you also just want to make sure that there is no wig or bio hair sticking under the lace. If there is any, you can run your finger underneath it to smooth it out and make sure there’s no hair being pressed down or tucked under.
EASY TO WEAR
So installing your wig can be as simple as that!
As long as you have a wig cap that fits nicely on your head and it is comfortable for you, then all you have to do is just pretty much pop it right on your head. If you are just getting started with wigs, we recommend trying it out a few times in the comfort of your home or with a wig professional. Just always make sure those ear tabs are adjusted in the right space and pretty soon if you’re new to wigs you’ll be able to put on your wig quickly and with ease! If your wig fits properly you shouldn’t have to worry about it coming off even in the wind, even if you’re doing a lot of movements or exercising with your wig.
The wigs should feel secure without any sort of additional tape or glue. If you feel nervous at all, we recommend wearing your wig around the house, and trying out some movements or scenarios such as shaking your head or bending over to test out the fit of your wig. If you feel it’s too tight or too loose, use the adjustable straps in the back of the wig to adjust it to fit you better.
