How to Wear a Ponytail with a Wig

Some are told that you have to have handmade, 100% human hair or 100% hand-tied wigs in order to wear it in a pony tail and that could not be further from the truth. Here are some steps for how to wear a pony tail with a wig.

1. SECURE YOUR WIG

   First, secure your wig onto a mannequin or secure your wig to your wig cap. After your wig is nice and secure comb the hair in and raise it to the top of the wig, leaving out a few tresses if you’d like. Keep in mind that you want to keep the back of the wig as close to the hair line on the nape of your neck as possible, be careful not to pull the hair too tight revealing the hairline or wig cap underneath.

2. PULL UP THE HAIR

   Grab the section of hair you want to put in a pony tail and secure it in place with just a basic hair band. If you want to go for a dressier look hold the section of hair you previously had in your hand, grab a little comb like a butterfly comb and make sure it’s one that holds tight because it’s going to need to be able to hold up the amount of hair.

3. SECURE THE PONYTAIL

   Flip your ponytail up toward the top of your head then use your butterfly comb to grasp the pony tail and hair underneath. Flip the ponytail back down to fall back over the butterfly comb creating a nice look that’s a little bit different. You can also leave a little bit of bang down to create another nice casual look. You could dress it up, dress up it down you can add hair accessories, a nice quick way to put up one of your basic construction wigs into a pony tail or a real casual updo.

4. PLACE YOUR WIG

   From this point you can place your wig on without placing bobby pins. To make the wig feel more secure, after putting on your wig cap, take a basic bobby pin and look for a space in the webs that you can place a pin through. Pin your wig with wig cap and make sure the bobby pin can’t be seen.

5. FINISH THE LOOK

   Let your pony tail hang down and tease your hair up a little by adding baby hairs in the back. You can also clamp your ponytail with the hair underneath and spread out the top fold of the pony tail for another dressy look. After styling your hair the way you want it, make sure you don’t see netting or foundation. When adjusting your hair always make sure that you pull down on the nape to ensure it fits comfortably and won’t fall when you move around. It’s important to have fun with your pieces, play with them, become more confident and comfortable.
